Diego Cortez, long known as one of the art world’s great provocateur/tastemakers is also part of New York’s downtown music intelligentsia. On his first major release Cortez fuses together the rich variations of a cross-pollinated life. Produced by Paul D. Miller (DJ Spooky AKA “That Subliminal Kid”), Stuzzicadenti mixes Diego’s jazz piano musings with Spooky’s turntablism and illbient mixing style. Diego’s pieces are filled out with a variety of contributions from an international set of musicians that include Flam, Arto Lindsay, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ben Neill, Butch Morris, and Priest. The results are highly listenable and adventurous – a re-threading of the lines between jazz, electronica, ambient and music concrete.
