OUTRAGEOUS CHERRY

Outrageous Cherry were formed in 1993 as another brainstorm project by multi-talented genius Matthew Smith. Matthew is a native of the Detroit area and has played in bands with Bar None's Epic Soundtracks, Simon Bonney (Crime & The City Solution), Warren DeFever (His Name Is Alive), and wrote most of the songs and played guitar on the Volebeats debut album, Up North, on Safehouse/Caroline.

In the little time this unit has been together they have warmed up shows for Morphine, the Grifters, the Cranberries, the Tindersticks, Barbara Manning, Unrest, and headlined their own shows, too.

What makes O.C. so incredible is their ability to bury a beautiful pop song with Velvet Underground laces of feedback and lo-fi naiveness. They also perform live without the benefit of a full-on drum kit, instead opting for Deb Agnolli's floor tom & snare combo. She pretty much rocks it and could be a candidate for Sassy band alert, too. (Sorry!)

Outrageous Cherry's debut CD is being released in conjunction with the March label (Figgs, Catherine, Loud Lucy). The album contains the obvious feel good hit "Pale Frail Lovely One" which is a single on Third Gear (Slot, Balloon Guy, Don Caballero) available now.
